2. Beauty Practices in Ancient Civilizations
• Ancient Egyptian beauty rituals and their significance
• Grooming techniques from ancient Greece, Rome, and other civilizations
• Cultural and social influences on grooming and beauty standards
3. Medieval to Renaissance Beauty
• Transition of beauty standards from the medieval period to the Renaissance
• Innovations in grooming and hair care during these periods
• The influence of royalty and class structure on beauty practices
4. 19th to Early 20th Century Cosmetology
• Industrialization’s impact on the beauty industry
• Technological advancements in hair and skin care
• The rise of the professional beauty industry and early beauty schools
5. The Modern Era of Cosmetology
•  Hollywood, and media on beauty standards
• The development of modern grooming tools and products
• Current trends influenced by historical practices
6. Career Exploration in Cosmetology
• Overview of potential career paths: hairstylist, esthetician, nail technician, salon owner, beauty educator, and product developer
• Exploration of less traditional career paths and emerging fields in the industry
7. Pioneers of Modern Cosmetology
• Key figures who shaped the cosmetology industry (e.g., Madame CJ Walker, Elizabeth Arden)
• How these pioneers influenced the professional beauty landscape

Assignment 1:
Research one ancient culture (e.g., Egypt, Greece, Rome) and its grooming practices. Explore how these practices relate to the modern cosmetology industry. Optional Submit a 1-page report or a presentation. Research career options in the beauty industry. Select a career path that interests you or create your own unique career path. Write a journal entry detailing the who, what, where, when, why, and how of your chosen career. If creating your own path, explain the reasoning behind it and its relevance to the industry. 1 page. Submission optional (If you submit, I will read, grade and return homework submission MYSOCUTEACH@GMAIL.COM All independent work submissions in subject heading put the name or phrase that you signed up with for the course and the name of the course you are currently enrolled in. )Example: Bugs Bunny/ The History of Cosmetology Assignment 2 Required Texts and Materials:

• Milady Standard Textbook of Cosmetology of Salon Fundaments. ( If you are a non-cosmetology student meaning you are not enrolled in any cosmetology program then a textbook is not necessary). If you are a cosmetology student and you are in a physical school learning cosmetology the textbook assigned to you is sufficient for this course as this course can be used for a supplement to what you are currently learning.
